hopefully the wise free-folk of general discussion have an answer.

So I play lights, mastered the myst lynx and topped 1300+ damage with it.

I am doing exceptionally well with it.

however, I am in a unit now, and somtimes there are too many light pilots. I picked up stormcrows during the sale, but bemoan their neg quirks.

nevertheless I am keeping one, since I mastered the chassis.

What should I get now GD?

Should I get another medium chassis? like the nova?

Should I branch out into heavies and get the TimberWolf? Or a chassis without neg quirks?

I can afford one assault.

What does GD think?

I understand this is such a subjective topic but I am having a hard time spending the cbills.

I haven't bought a heavy chassis yet because of wait times, and assaults are no better.

Lights just seem to have it easy, since everyone wants to be the big stompy robot and not the little guy chewing the legs off the enemy

Ignore the negative quirks.
Both the Mad Cat (Timberwolf) and Ryoken (Stormcrow) are top tier mechs that are still one of the (if not THE) best mechs in their weight categories.

You can never go wrong with picking up the Mad Cat or maybe a Loki (Hellbringer) if you want to try the Heavies.
You could also try the Thor(Summoner), but it's only if you feel like playing an underdog, that's not necessarily a great mech.

Edit: I should stop referring to clan mechs by their IS names.

Okay, I will. I suppose bringing too many too a dropdeck in CW would be hard to do anyway...so its probably good to focus on the timby's right now to even out my stable

Being part of a team you should get something in every size. That way you can fill in where ever there is a gap.

I would recommend you try any available trial mechs first, even if just in the training grounds.

You might also consider some pseudo-lights like the Cicada or Ice Ferret - as while they aren't super top performers will be somewhat similar to light mechs in terms of playstyle - and if you can do a mind-boggling 1300 damage in a Mist Lynx, you should be able to do well enough with something like an Ice Ferret.

Wait for the shadowcat and cauldron born. They are coming very quickly.

If this is true...
Why would we have to wait? They'll be done soon.

If you go mediums, get Wolverines.

The 7K is one of the best brawlers in the game with 3 ASRM6 - the launcher arrangement is just wicked good - if you haven't tried it, prepare to have your eyes opened.

The 6K vomits blue lasers to a degree that would make even Cobra Commander jealous.

The 6R is nearly as good as the Dragon with the AC5s, and it's not as often focused.

People don't pick out Wolverines like they do Dragons and Timbies. It often gets overlooked in the melee, and then ganks about 4 or so other mechs in the ensuing hairball.

Lastly, everytime you go into battle, you get to shout, "Wolverines!" Red Dawn style.

The quirks are "not as bad" as they say. They can be worked around. The key is to add a heavier weapon to offset the recharge and burn time. Like substituting a medium laser for a large, or medium pulse for a large pulse. Or just adding another laser. You will lose the peekaboo battles with IS as they have the high mounted point advantage, but you will gain more damage with the heavier weapons.

That being said make sure your next mech it is a Hellbringer or Timberwolf.
